Brita Water Filter Review

At just £21.95 for their starter pack (2.4L jug and three Maxtra+ cartridges) Brita is the most competitively priced water filter on the market.

In January 2020 The Telegraph newspaper reviewed the top five water filters on the market and all of their experts put Brita in first place. Brita also came top in the BBC Good Food guide on water filters – see Healthier Options.

Brita jugs are made from BPA-free plastic and come in different sizes, with most designed to fit in the fridge door. They have an electronic ‘memo’ reminder display built into the lid to indicate when the cartridge needs changing. The jugs are sturdy and last for many years.

The Brita Maxtra cartridge works by using micro carbon pearls to capture chlorine, chemicals and other contaminants in the water. On their website they claim they reduce chlorine taste and odour, zinc, copper, mercury and cadmium. The cartridges are easy and quick to change. They sell on a regular basis and come with a 30 day money back guarantee and the cartridges are recyclable. One thing to bear in mind – if you live in a hard water area you may need to change the cartridge more often than recommended.

There have been a few complaints regarding their customer service, but more than 70% on Trust Pilot rated it with 4 and 5 stars and praised them as “Great and “Excellent”. My Verdict

We have been using Brita water filters for many years and have always been happy with the results. Whilst not filtering out all possible contaminants, a large proportion of them are removed thus making the water healthier and better tasting. Some cartridges do seem to take longer than others to filter through the water but it is worth the wait to have water of better quality! In conclusion, after researching various other filters on the market, Brita still comes out on top as the most effective, efficient and value for money product.
